ABSTRACT The method for the treatment of waste products, in particular oil-contaminated chips of reactive metals such as magnesium and magnesium alloys. The chips are heated to a temperature close to or above the boiling point of the oil and below the melting point of the metal. Preferably, a closed, cylindrical rotating furnace (1) should be used, having inner, slanting blades/wings (9) on the wall of the furnace. Chips are fed from a container (6) via a transporting device (8). There is a closed outlet system (12) to conduct the chips out of the furnace. The oil vapour is conducted out of the furnace and coalesced.
