ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Portions of ink jet transducers 20 are deactivated so as to tune the transducer 20 to the transducer drive rather than vice versa. Deactiva- tion may be accomplished by creating a discontinuity 28 in a conductive coating 38 on the transducer 20 or by partially depoling the transducer 20.
