The invention relates to apparatus and method for therapeutically treating reflex sympathetic dystrophy using ultrasound. The apparatus (10) includes at least one ergonomically constructed ultrasonic transducer (16) configured to cooperate with a placement module (14) or strip for placement in proximity to pain receptors of the sympathetic nervous system. The apparatus also utilizes a portable, ergonomically constructed main operating unit (12) constructed to fit within a pouch worn by the patient. In operation, at least one ultrasonic transducer positioned in proximity to the pain receptors of the sympathetic nervous system is excited for a predetermined period of time. To ensure that at least one ultrasonic transducer is properly positioned, and to insure compliance with a treatment protocol, a safety interlock is provided to prevent inadvertent excitation of the at least one ultrasonic transducer. In an alternate embodiment, the apparatus includes a treatment basin having a plurality of ultrasonic transducer assemblies placed on the perimeter thereof. The patient places an injured part of the body therein and the transducer assemblies are excited to impinge ultrasonic waves to the injured part of the body.
L'invention concerne un appareil et une méthode de traitement thérapeutique à ultrasons de l'algodystrophie réflexe sympathique. L'appareil (10) comprend au moins un transducteur à ultrasons ergonomique (16), configuré pour fonctionner avec un module de placement (14) ou bande de placement afin d'être placé à proximité des récepteurs de douleur du système nerveux sympathique. L'appareil comprend une unité de fonctionnement principale (12) ergonomique et portable, conçue de manière à pouvoir être insérée à l'intérieur d'une pochette portée par le patient. En état de fonctionnement, au moins un transducteur à ultrasons positionné à proximité des récepteurs du système sympathique est excité pendant un laps de temps prédéterminé. Afin de garantir que le transducteur à ultrasons est correctement positionné et afin d'assurer la conformité à un protocole de traitement, un dispositif de sécurité permet de prévenir une excitation involontaire dudit transducteur à ultrasons. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, l'appareil comprend une cuvette de traitement possédant plusieurs ensembles transducteurs à ultrasons placés sur son périmètre. Le patient place la partie malade de son anatomie à l'intérieur et les ensembles transducteurs sont excités afin d'appliquer des ondes ultrasons à la partie malade du corps du patient.
