An elongated product (BA1) is withdrawn from its receiving unit (VT) in such a way that at least one loop (SL) is formed at at least one longitudinal point of its run (AW2). Changes in the geometrical shape of the loop (SL) are detected and used to control or adjust the delivery of the elongated product (BA1).
