ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the manufacture of paper or paperboard from a non- woven web of fibrous cellulosic material, which is wet- formed on a travelling foraminous forming band, the aqueous paper-making stock is prepared from dry mechanical wood pulp, Water is added to the dry pulp and mixed to form a stock which, preferably, has a water content of 99% by weight. The resulting stock is wet-laid on the forming band to form the web which is thereafter partially dewatered, for example, to a solids content of 10-2 % by weight, and consolidated by the application of heat and pressure to form a paper web. Consolidation of the web is preferably effected by subject- ing the web to one or more press drying stages while supported by the forming band. The invention enables reduc- tion of the quantity of water and the overall energy required in the manufacture of paper webs.
