A method and apparatus for controlling various functional elements (34, 38, 42, 44) in a digital telephone system using state determination from an echo canceller (10). An echo canceller (10) is used to evaluate which one of five talk states two speakers are engaged in during a telephone conversation. This state determination information is used to control a tone detector function (34), a noise suppressor function (38), an adaptive equalizer function, a transmission mute function (42), and a vocoder encoder function (44) within a vocoder (12). During the talk state where the far-end speaker is active and the near-end speaker is inactive, the echo canceller (10) provides a signal which disables background noise estimates from being performed in the noise suppressor (38) and the vocoder (10) encoder. The same signal is used to disable the tone detector (34) and to enable the transmission mute function (42) during this talk state.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour commander divers éléments fonctionnels (34, 38, 42, 44) dans un système téléphonique numérique à l'aide de la détermination d'états à partir d'un annuleur d'écho (10). Ce dernier sert à évaluer à quel état de conversation, parmi cinq états de conversation, deux correspondants participent lors d'une conversation téléphonique. Ces informations relatives à la détermination d'états servent à commander une fonction détecteur de tonalité (34), une fonction atténuateur de bruit (38), une fonction égaliseur adaptatif, une fonction blocage émission (42), et une fonction codeur de vocodeur (44) au sein d'un vocodeur (12). Au cours de l'état de conversation où le correspondant éloigné est actif et le correspondant rapproché est inactif, l'annuleur d'écho (10) délivre un signal qui empêche la réalisation des estimations de bruit de fond dans l'atténuateur de bruit (38) et le codeur du vocodeur (10). Ce même signal sert à neutraliser le détecteur de tonalité (34) et à valider la fonction blocage émission (42) au cours de cet état de conversation.
