A vacuum forming apparatus and process for its use in forming a transport tire from an elastomeric material that includes a mold having a cavity or annular area wherein a transport tire core of plies, belt and beads is laid-up on a mandrel located within the mold. The mold receives a cover fitted in sealing engagement over the mold top and a cylindrical canister is fitted through the center of which cover and the mold center that is open at a top end to receive a pour of an elastomeric material mixture and includes a needle valve in its lower end that exhausts into one end of the mold annular area. The cylindrical canister includes a port for connection to a deep vacuum source and the cover includes a port that is for connection to a low level vacuum source, with the deep vacuum to remove air from the elastomeric material mixture as it is poured into the canister, and with, after filling, the port is open to atmosphere and the needle valve is opened to exhaust the mixture into the mold annular chamber wherethrough it is pulled by the low level vacuum through the cover port, filling the mold annular cavity and thoroughly impregnating the core maintained therein.
L'invention concerne un appareil de formage sous vide et un procédé d'utilisation dudit appareil dans le formage d'un pneumatique de transport à partir d'un élastomère, lequel appareil comprend un moule présentant une cavité ou une zone annulaire, une âme de plis, ceintures et talons de pneumatique de transport étant disposée sur un mandrin situé à l'intérieur du moule. Ce moule reçoit un couvercle ajusté de manière étanche sur la partie supérieure du moule et un récipient métallique cylindrique est inséré à travers le centre du couvercle et le centre du moule, ouvert à une extrémité supérieure pour recevoir une coulée d'un mélange élastomère et pourvu, à son extrémité inférieure, d'une soupape à pointeau qui s'ouvre dans une extrémité de la zone annulaire du moule. Le récipient métallique cylindrique présente un orifice de raccordement à une source à vide fort et le couvercle présente un orifice de raccordement à une source à vide faible, le vide fort servant à éliminer l'air du mélange élastomère à mesure qu'il est versé dans le récipient métallique. Après le remplissage, l'orifice est ouvert à l'atmosphère et la soupape à pointeau est ouverte afin de libérer le mélange dans la chambre annulaire du moule dans laquelle ce mélange est aspiré par le vide faible à travers l'orifice du couvercle, afin de remplir la cavité annulaire du moule et d'imprégner complètement le noyau maintenu à l'intérieur.
