An apparatus and method for wrapping a top and bottom of a load (212) with packaging material (214) is provided. The apparatus includes at least one non- driven packaging material guide (220a, 220b) is provided for use in combination with a powered conveying surface (218). The non-powered packaging material guide includes at least one row of non-driven wheels (222) attached to a rail (224). The force applied by the packaging material (214) as it is wrapped around the guide is supported by both the rail (224) and the at least one row of non-driven wheels (222). The rail also serves to bridge any gaps between the non-driven wheels, thereby preventing capture of packaging material between the non-driven wheels. Preferably, the packaging material guide includes two rows of non-driven wheels, one on each side of the rail. Further, it is preferable that the rail connect the two rows of wheels such that the two rows of wheels form an angle of 60 degrees between them. The packaging material guide is preferably positioned above the load but may also be positioned either below the load or to the sides of the load.

L'invention porte sur un appareil et sur un procédé d'enrobage du sommet et de la base d'une charge (212) à l'aide d'un produit d'emballage (214). L'appareil comporte au moins deux guides fous du produit d'emballage collaborant avec une surface de convoyage (218) motorisée. Ledit guide comporte au moins une rangée de galets fous fixés à un rail (224). La force appliquée par le produit d'emballage (214) lorsqu'il vient entourer les guides s'applique à la fois au rail (224) et à au moins une rangée de galets fous (222). Le rail enjambe tout espace compris entre des galets fous, ce qui empêche le produit d'emballage de se prendre entre deux galets fous. Le guide de produit d'emballage comporte de préférence deux rangées de galets fous disposées de part et d'autre du rail. Il est de plus préférable que le rail relie les deux rangées de galets pour qu'elles fassent entre elles un angle de 60·. Le guide de produit d'emballage est de préférence placé au-dessus de la charge, mais il peut également l'être en-dessous, ou sur les côtés.
