A method and apparatus for wrapping coils (1) of metallic strip and the like to protect against atmospheric corrosion are described. A plastic film sleeve (4) is inserted through the open cylindrical centre (2) and held in place by flanged collars (3) at each end. The sleeve (4) is turned back over the collars (3) and the ends are loosely stuffed into the open cylindrical centre (2). The entire coil is then cocoon wrapped using relatively wide stretch-wrap film (10). The cocoon wrapping (10) is then sealed to the ~ turned-over sleeve (4) in the vicinity of the end collars so as to seal the coil (I) within a continuous plastic film. The excess cocoon wrapping and sleeve material overlying the cylindrical centre can be trimmed away to leave an open centre to receive coil handling equipment.
L'invention traite d'un procédé et d'un appareil pour envelopper des bobines (1) de bande métallique et similaires pour les protéger contre la corrosion atmosphérique. Un manchon de film plastique (4) est inséré dans le centre cylindrique ouvert (2) et maintenu en position par des colliers à brides (3) au niveau de chaque extrémité. Le manchon (4) est retourné sur les colliers (3) et les extrémités sont rentrées, de manière lâche, dans le centre cylindrique ouvert (2). La totalité de la bobine est ensuite enveloppée en cocon à l'aide d'un film d'emballage étirable relativement large (10).
