A method for use in a cellular, FFT based multi-carrier communications system comprising N sub-carriers, for allocating a set P of sub-carriers to be reserved for potential use as carriers of specific information, comprises the following steps:- selecting a number M indicating the number of sub-carriers to be allocated to a set P of sub-carriers, such that L=N/M is an integer- allocating the at least two subcarriers of the set P={(n0+m*L) mod N : 0<=m<M} for the specific information, n0 being the offset of the lowest numbered subcarrier in P, the elements of P being indices, each referring to the number of a sub-carrier to be allocated. An apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed. According to the invention, the sub-channels are maximally spread in frequency, which gives maximum diversity and also enables the use of low-complexity terminals.

L'invention porte sur une méthode et appareil relatifs à un système cellulaire de télécommunications à porteuses multiples à base de TFR comportant N sous-porteuses dont un ensemble P peut être réservé à une utilisation potentielle comme porteuses d'une information spécifique. Ladite méthode consiste à sélectionner un nombre M indiquant le nombre de sous porteuses à attribuer à un ensemble P de sous-porteuses de manière à ce que L=N/M soit un entier, et à attribuer au moins deux sous-porteuses de l'ensemble P={(n¿0?+m*L) mod N: 0=m<M} pour les informations spécifiques, n¿0? étant la compensation de la sous-porteuse du nombre le plus bas de P, et les éléments de P étant des indices correspondant chacun à une sous-porteuse à attribuer. L'invention porte également sur un appareil de mise en oeuvre de la méthode. L'invention permet un étalement maximum des fréquences des sous-porteuses donnant un maximum de diversité tout en permettant d'utiliser des terminaux peu complexes.
