ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A central shaft is sunk into the tarsand formation and a plurality of radially extending and spirally located injection and collection tubes extend from the shaft into the tarsand formation and these tubes communicate through the wall of the shaft. Hot water, steam or solvent or a combination thereof is injected into the tarsand through the injection tubes thus fluidizing the surrounding tarsand or the hydro- carbon content thereof so that this, solvent with some of the hot water and/or solvent flows into the collection tubes and then into the base of the shaft which acts as a sump. It is then pumped to the sur- face and conveyed to settling tanks.
