METHOD AND APPARATUS IN THE PRESS SECTION OF A PAPER MACHINE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Method and apparatus wherein both the technical char- acteristics of a paper web being manufactured are improved as will as the dewatering action and runnability of the paper machine enhanced. A press section has at least three press nips between which the web to be treated passes in no-draw or closed conduc- tion, the first press nip being defined between a water receiving roll and a suction roll, the second nip being defined between the suction roll and a smooth-surfaced roll, and wherein the smooth- surfaced roll constitutes one of the two rolls in the third and subsequent nips, if any. According to the invention, first heating means direct a first heating effect onto a first sector of a first of the two sides of the web, the first sector being within an interval between the first and second press nips and second heating means direct a second heating effect onto a substantially extensive second sector of the second of the two sides of the web, the second sector being within an interval between the second and third press nips. The first and second heating effects are operated such that the temperature of the web is elevated to substantially above 50°C before it passes through the last press nip of the press section.
