Apparatus for determining in-blow % carbon content and/or the First Turn Down Carbon of a BOF heat includes a light sensor housed within a temperature regulated case having a sighting window including air wipe means to shield the light sensor from steelmaking dust and fume. The apparatus also includes a means to generate a signal that corresponds to the amount of oxygen blown into the BOF during a heat, and a programmable logic controller. The logic controller is programmed to continuously process oxygen blown signals from the signal generating means, and light intensity signals received from the light sensor. The program calculates continuous in-blow % carbon content of the heat based upon the difference in light intensity from a point of maximum light intensity emitted from the BOF vessel in relation to the amount of oxygen blown into the BOF vessel durng the same period of time.
Ce dispositif permet de déterminer le pourcentage de teneur en carbone pendant le soufflage et/ou le premier abaissement de ce pourcentage dans un bain de convertisseur à soufflage d'oxygène au-dessus du bain. Il comprend un détecteur de luminosité logé dans un boîtier à température contrôlée doté d'une fenêtre de visée et d'un dispositif de projection d'air qui le protège des poussières et vapeurs sidérurgiques. Ce dispositif comprend aussi un appareil produisant un signal qui correspond à la quantité d'oxygène soufflée dans ce type de convertisseur pendant un bain, ainsi qu'un circuit logique de commande programmable qui est programmé pour traiter en continu des signaux d'oxygène insufflé provenant de l'appareil produisant un signal, ainsi que des signaux d'intensité lumineuse reçus du détecteur de luminosité. Le programme calcule en continu le pourcentage de teneur du bain en carbone pendant le soufflage, selon la différence d'intensité lumineuse provenant d'un point d'intensité lumineuse maximum émise par la cuve du convertisseur à soufflage d'oxygène au-dessus du bain en fonction de la quantité d'oxgène insufflée dans cette cuve pendant la même durée.
