The method comprising, determining a temperature of the solid insulation (18, 22) at a specific location, calculating a relative moisture saturation of the oil (30) at the specific location, calculating the ultimate water content in the solid insulation (18, 22) at the specific location, and calculating an actual water content in the solid insulation (18, 22) at the specific location.
