A method and apparatus to determine user identity (200) and limit access to a communications network (300). A first message containing user identity information (200) is received from a client computer in accordance with a first protocol. A first network address (310) is determined from the first message. A second message containing an information request is also received from the client in accordance with a second protocol, and a second network address is determined from the second message. The requesting user identity (200) is then determined based on the first network address (310), the user identity information and the second network address. Based on the requesting user identity (200), it can be decided whether to grant the information request. If access is granted, the requested information is retrieved using the communications network.
L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil permettant de déterminer l'identité (200) d'un utilisateur et de limiter l'accès à un réseau (300) de communications. Un premier message contenant des informations sur l'identité d'un utilisateur est reçu à partir d'un ordinateur client conformément à un premier protocole. Une première adresse (310) de réseau est déterminée à partir du premier message. Un second message contenant une demande d'informations est également reçue à partir de l'ordinateur client conformément à un second protocole, et une seconde adresse de réseau est déterminée à partir du second message. L'identité (200) de l'utilisateur est ensuite déterminée en fonction de la première adresse (310) de réseau, des informations sur l'identité de l'utilisateur et de la seconde adresse de réseau. En fonction de l'identité de l'utilisateur, il peut être décidé d'accorder ou non la demande d'informations. Si l'accès est accordé, les informations demandées sont extraites à l'aide du réseau de communications.
