Apparatus using a global positioning system (GPS) for finding out the attitude of a rotating space vehicle employs first and second antennae mounted opposite from each other on a circumference of the body of the rotating space vehicle. The antennae receive GPS satellite signals in their channels. A control and tracking loop processor monitors the signal strength in each channel. Phase errors produced by phase discriminators of each channel are combined to produce a spin signature which is used to calculate the vehicle spin rate and vehicle attitude.

Appareil utilisant un système de positionnement global (GPS) pour trouver l'attitude d'un véhicule spatial en rotation. Ledit appareil comporte des première et seconde antennes montées opposées l'une à l'autre sur une circonférence du corps de véhicule spatial. Les antennes reçoivent dans leurs canaux des signaux de satellite GPS. Un processeur de boucle de commande et de poursuite surveille l'intensité du signal dans chaque canal. Des erreurs de phase produites par des discriminateurs de phase de chaque canal sont combinées pour produire une signature de rotation qui est utilisée pour calculer la vitesse de rotation et l'attitude du véhicule.
