A method and an apparatus for monitoring the production of blow molded plastic containers (20) includes a columnator (26) and sound detector (24) responsive to a defect sound of pressure fluid escaping from a container being formed in a mold cavity (14). The columnator is effective to filter the defect sound from ambient noise. An output signal generated by the sound detector is processed to generate a control signal used to reject a defective container. Preferably, the open end of the columnator is positioned between 20~ and 150~ from the preform loading station in a rotary platform (12) blow molding machine.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de contrôler la production de conteneurs (20) en plastique moulés par soufflage. L'appareil selon l'invention comprend un cylindre (26) de transmission d'énergie sonore et un détecteur (24) de sons sensible à un son défectueux correspondant à une fuite de liquide de pression d'un conteneur formé dans une cavité de moule (14). Le cylindre de transmission d'énergie sonore est efficace pour filtrer ledit son défectueux du bruit ambiant. Un signal de sortie produit par le détecteur de sons est traité pour produire un signal de commande utilisé pour écarter un conteneur défectueux. L'extrémité ouverte du cylindre de transmission d'énergie sonore est disposée de préférence entre 20· et 150· du poste de chargement de préformes dans une machine de moulage par soufflage à plate-forme (12) rotative.
