A method for camera calibration records a digitized image of a figure (100, 110) with the figure preferably comprising a black disk (100), which is surrounded by a circular arrange- ment of radial line segments. The method extracts edge points from the recorded image and performs a Hough Transform on the edge points to obtain a centre (140) of the figure. Then, a diameter of the disk (100) is obtained to calculate the con- version factor, which represents the distance between the camera and the calibration figure. The method provides a re- liable calibration even under cluttered background condi- tions.
