The invention relates to a method for delivering mail (10), wherein the mail is transported to a delivery address (20) and a notification message (50) is deposited thereon if the mail (10) cannot be delivered to an authorised recipient (30). According to said method, a charging area of a packet mailbox (60) is allocated to the recipient (30) of the mail (10) by means of an identification means (40), such as a bar code. Said identification means is applied to the notification message (50) together with position information of the packet mailbox and data of the recipient, such that the collector can collect the mail, for example, with the aid of a notification card on the packet mailbox.
