The present invention teaches a method, system, terminals and service node for geographically positioning a first mobile radio terminal within a radio network comprising unsynchronised radio base stations by using a plurality of second fixed radio terminals whereby the positions of the radio base stations and the second fixed radio terminals are known. First and second radio terminals measure the relative receive times between the timing signals downlink received from at least three radio base stations and the second fixed radio terminals send them to a service node in the network using them for calculating the transmission time offsets of the timing signals downlink. Calculating the position of the first mobile radio terminal is performed either in the service node in the network or in the terminal itself, after respectively sending relative receive time measurements from the first mobile radio terminal to the service node, or broadcasting transmission time offset values and known positions from the service node to the first radio terminal to be positioned.
Méthode, système, terminaux et noeud de services permettant de localiser géographiquement un premier terminal mobile radio (MS1) à l'intérieur d'un réseau radio (100) comprenant des stations de base non synchronisées, grâce à plusieurs terminaux radio fixes secondaires (MS2), les positions des stations de base et des terminaux radio fixes secondaires étant connues. Un premier et un deuxième terminal radio (MS1, MS2) mesurent les temps de réception relatifs entre les signaux de synchronisation en liaison descendante (113-118) provenant d'au moins trois stations de base (BS1, BS2, BS3) tandis que le terminal radio fixe secondaire (MS2) envoie ses signaux à un noeud de services (107) dans le réseau (100) en les utilisant pour calculer les décalages de temps de transmission entre les signaux de synchronisation de la liaison descendante. Le calcul de la position du premier terminal radio mobile (MS1) s'effectue soit au niveau du noeud de services (107) du réseau (100) soit au niveau du terminal (MS1) lui-même, après envoi des mesures de synchronisation de réception du premier terminal radio (MS1) au noeud de services (107), ou par diffusion des valeurs de décalages de temps de transmission ainsi que des positions connues à partir du noeud de services (107) en direction du premier terminal radio (MS1) devant être localisé.
