The invention is related to a method in a communication network for handling traffic, such as data packets, from source nodes to destination nodes, via user selectable relay nodes. The relay nodes form an overlay network of nodes operated and managed by an overlay network operator. Communication between relay nodes relies on using packet forwarding services of intermediate networks being operated and managed independently by other operators. For any source/destination pair the overlay network operator may select an appropriate sequence of relay nodes to be passed depending on the required quality of service and the performance of different intermediate networks. The invention enables the control of the spreading of traffic between any two end-points over several alternative relay routes.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'acheminer le trafic dans un réseau de communication, comme, par exemple, les paquets de données, depuis des noeuds sources vers des noeuds de destination, via des noeuds relais pouvant être choisis par l'utilisateur. Les noeuds relais forment un réseau superposé de noeuds exploités et gérés par un opérateur de réseau superposé. La communication entre les noeuds relais repose sur les services de transmission de paquets de réseaux intermédiaires qui sont exploités et gérés de façon indépendante par d'autres opérateurs. Pour toute paire source/destination, l'opérateur de réseau superposé peut choisir une séquence appropriée de noeuds relais de passage en fonction de la qualité de service requise et des performances des différents réseaux intermédiaires. L'invention permet de régler l'étalement du trafic entre deux points terminaux sur plusieurs artères relais alternatives.
