ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for melting of pitch wherein cold pitch is brought into contact with hot molten liquid pitch which circulates in a closed system and includes a heating furnace for maintenance of the temperature in the molten pitch. The melting container in which the cold pitch contacts the hot pitch, is arranged within the storage container for the molten pitch, and there are provided open passageways between the melting container and the storage container so that the molten pitch will flow into the storage container as it is produced.
