ABSTRACT A description is given of a method for non-contact measurement of direct and alternating currents, more particularly instantaneous current-values, using an iron-circuit having an air-gap, a magnetic-field-dependent resistor through which a control-current flows, and at least one winding through which a measuring current flows. In order to obtain the highest possible measuring speed which will detect a rapid instaneous value, e.g. any high peak-currents arising, at an equivalent current winding is arranged in the iron circuit. The voltage-drops at the magnetic-field-dependent resistor, in the event of peak- values or other typical values of the current to be measured, are detected and stored, while no current flows in the equivalent-current winding, thereafter, the current to be measured is stopped and current is caused to rise on the equivalent current winding. The stored voltages are compared, consecutively with the voltage-drop at the magnetic-field-dependent resistor, with the rising current in the equivalent-current winding are indicative of the typical values being measured. To obtain the exact typical values of the measuring current the equivalent current values are multiplied according to the number of turns of the equivalent winding.
