A mechanism for storing and providing historical physiological data, such as blood oxygen saturation data, for a patient. In particular, the historical physiological data is stored in a storage medium that "travels" with the patient and is accessible wherever the patient is moved. This is achieved by storing the physiological data within a sensor assembly. At the destination site, a monitor or a device capable of interfacing with the sensor electronics can retrieve and display the data. The historical physiological data allows a clinician or medical personnel at the destination site to assess the condition of the patient for the entire time that the patient has been monitored. Various types of physiological data can be stored including, but not limited to, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, and temperature data. Compression of the data can be performed to enhance the storage capability.
Cette invention permet de stocker et de restituer un dossier contenant des données physiologiques telles que des données sur la saturation en oxygène du sang d'un patient. Plus particulièrement, ce dossier est stocké sur un support qui accompagne le patient et auquel on peut accéder chaque fois que ledit patient se déplace. A cette fin, on stocke les données physiologiques dans un ordinateur connecté à l'instrumentation. Au point de destination, un moniteur ou un dispositif capable d'assurer l'interface avec l'ordinateur permet de récupérer et d'afficher les données. Grâce à ce dossier de données physiologiques, le médecin ou le personnel médical de la destination peuvent évaluer l'état du patient en fonction de toute la période au cours de laquelle ledit patient a été placé sous surveillance. Divers types de données d'ordre physiologique peuvent être stockées, notamment, mais pas exclusivement, des données relatives à la saturation en oxygène du sang, le rythme cardiaque et les relevés de température. La compression des données permet d'accroître les possibilités de stockage.
