This invention relates to the utilization of a synthetic copy of the sex pheromone of the female hemlock looper, Lambdina fiscellaria, a pest of coniferous forests in North America, to attract and control hemlock loopers. Methods and compositions are described whereby synthetic 5,11-dimethylheptadecane alone or in combination with one or more of 2,5-dimethylheptadecane, 5-methylheptadecane and/or 7-methylheptadecane deployed from controlled release lures can be used to attract male hemlock loopers.

La présente invention porte sur l'utilisation d'une copie synthétique de la phéromone sexuelle de l'arpenteuse de la pruche, Lambdina fiscellaria, parasite des forêts de conifères d'Amérique du Nord, pour attirer et éliminer les arpenteuses de la pruche. On décrit des méthodes et des compositions, consistant à utiliser du 5,11-diméthylheptadécane, seul ou en combinaison avec un ou plusieurs des composés 2,5-diméthylheptadécane, 5-méthylheptadécane et (ou) 7-méthylheptadécane, appliqués à l'aide d'appâts à libération prolongée pour attirer les arpenteuses de la pruche mâles.
