A method is provided for inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces, especially at high temperatures. The metal surface is contacted with an aminoamide of the formula R1-CO-NR2-Z-NR3R4 or salts thereof or mixtures thereof. Compositions containing the aminoamides are provided as well as aminoamides per se.
