An eyeglass lens forming composition containing light absorbing compounds which may undergo light initiated polymerization is provided. Typically, lens forming compositions that absorb light do not permit enough activating radiation to penetrate into the depths of the lens cavity to adequately initiate polymerization of the lens forming composition. An embodiment of the invention provides a system and method for curing such a lens forming composition to form a lens that does not transmit activating light. Activating light is used having a wavelength greater than the wavelengths of light which the light absorbing compounds absorb. The power of the formed lenses may be controlled by varying the lens forming conditions. Additionally, the lens forming process may be controlled using a microprocessor based control system.
L'invention concerne une composition permettant de former des verres de lunettes, renfermant des composés photoabsorbants pouvant être soumis à une polymérisation photoamorcée. De manière générale, les compositions pour verres qui absorbent la lumière ne permettent pas à suffisamment de rayons d'activation de pénétrer dans les profondeurs de la cavité du verre pour amorcer de façon appropriée la polymérisation de la composition permettant de former les verres. Un mode de réalisation de l'invention concerne un système et un procédé de durcissement d'une telle composition destiné à former un verre filtrant la lumière d'activation. La lumière d'activation utilisée présente une longueur d'onde supérieure aux longueurs d'onde de la lumière que les composés photoabsorbants absorbent. La puissance des verres formés peut être ajustée en faisant varier les conditions de formation des verres. En outre, le procédé permettant de former ces verres peut être commandé par un système de commande par microprocesseur.
