Stern ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Back pain and other symptoms of intervertebral disk disease are relieved by injecting into the diseased inter- vertebral disk of the back an aqueous solution of, for example, in each milliliter of solution: 3.5 mg. of cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate; 0.37 mg. of disodium edetate dihydrate; 1 mg. of sodium bisulfite, 20 mg. of sodium iothalamate; and sufficient sodium hydroxide to provide a pH of about 6.5 to the solution. The solution is free of proteolytic enzymes.
