- 59 - ABSTRACT The present invention is directed to substantially pure peptide composition having antiviral activity. These peptides are characterized by having a molecular weight of from between 5,000 to 40,000 Daltons. These peptides are further characterized by having at its 5' end the amino acids shown in Sequence Id. No. 1 and its 3' end either Sequence Id. Nos. 4 or 6. Additionally, this peptide is further characterized at its 5' end by being coded for DNA sequence shown in Sequence Id. No. 3. This composition can be used to treat viral infections, in particular HIV and HHV-6.
