This invention relates to a method and chemical composition for the treatment of impaired glucose tolerance. More particularly, this invention pertains to a novel method and use of chromic picolinate and one or more other components in the treatment of impaired glucose tolerance. A method of treating impaired glucose tolerance in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising two or more of chromic picolinate, Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, Fructus Lycii Chinensis, and Ophiopogonis Japonici to lower the blood glucose level as measured by an oral glucose tolerance test.
