- 29 - ABSTRACT A method for the treatment and promotion of heal- ing of bone fractures and osteotomies in warm-blooded animals including humans, which comprises local applica- tion to the site of the fracture or osteotomy of a therapeutically effective amount of 24,25(OH)2D3 dis- solved or dispersed in a suitable physiologically com- patible carrier. There are also provided, for use in the above method, compositions comprising from 0.002 to 0.2% by weight of 24,25(OH)2D3 in combination with a physiologi- cally compatible vehicle suitable for use in orthopedic surgery for local application to a site of bone fracture or osteotomy, or for application to solid or semi-solid implants conventional in orthopedic surgery and to pros- theses.
