- 21 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and composition for stimulating the intracellular synthesis of glutathione. The method comprises the step of administering to a mammal requiring stimulation of intracellular glutathione synthesis a therapeutically effective amount of a salt of L-2- oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid. In an embodiment, the salt of L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid includes at least one cation chosen from the group consisting of: sodium, potassium; magnesium; calcium; iron; zinc; copper; calcium; selenium; manganese; and molybdenum.
