Methods and compositions relating to insulin resistance are disclosed. Specifically, proteins that are differentially expressed in these conditions are identified. In one aspect, the invention provides a method of screening an agent to determine its usefulness in treating insulin resistance, based on establishing a paradigm in which at least one protein is differentially expressed in relevant tissue from, or representative of, subjects having differential levels of insulin sensitivity.
