A method of inhibiting ribonucleases is disclosed wherein a nucleotide compound having a diphosphate group contacts a ribonuclease so as to inhibit the ribonuclease from effectively catalyzing the depolymerization of ribonucleic acid. Nobel compounds useful in the method are also disclosed.
