Electronic devices (16, 17) can be controlled by a control unit (11), which in turn is responsive to infrared commands (33) received from a remote (12) utilized by an operator. The remote has a touch-panel display (49), on which images can be displayed. The images are part of a user interface created by a program (86) running in a personal computer (13). An operator enters into the computer an identification of the devices (16, 17) which are to be controlled, and the computer then takes predefined images and automatically customizes them for these devices. Some of the images have a size which is less than the overall size of the display, so that when one of these images is displayed, a portion of at least one other image will also be visible. For a controlled device which does not recognize each of a discrete power on, discrete power off and power toggle command, the computer automatically effects configuration so as to provide all three functions using a subset of commands which the controlled device actually does recognize.
Il est possible de gérer des dispositifs électroniques (16, 17) à l'aide d'une unité de commande (11), répondant elle-même à une instruction par IR (33) reçue d'une télécommande (12) utilisée par un opérateur. Ladite télécommande comporte un écran à clavier à touches (49), pouvant présenter des images faisant partie d'une interface utilisateur crée par un programme (86) tournant sur un PC (13). Un opérateur introduit dans l'ordinateur une identification des dispositifs (16, 17) à commander, l'ordinateur prenant alors des images prédéfinies et les personnalisant automatiquement pour les dispositifs. Certaine des images ont une taille inférieure à la taille totale de l'écran: ainsi, lorsque l'une de ces images est représentée, une partie d'une autre image sera également visible. Si le dispositif commandé ne reconnaît pas chacune des instructions telles que différentes mises sous tension, différentes mises hors tension et le commutateur d'arrêt/marche, l'ordinateur crée automatiquement une configuration permettant d'obtenir les trois fonctions à l'aide d'un sous-ensemble d'instructions que le dispositif commandé reconnaît effectivement.
