A method and apparatus for determining the coagulation status of a liquid. Particles of a material which experiences a force when placed in a magnetic field are caused to move through a sample of liquid and the position and/or movement of the particles is determined by a magnetic field sensor. By noting changes in the response of the particles to applied magnetic field it is possible te, determine changes in the coagulation status of the liquid. The apparatus may include an elongate chamber for holding a liquid sample with an electromagnet and associated magnetic field sensor disposed at each opposite end respectively. The method and apparatus is particularly concerned with measurement of the coagulation tirne for blood or plasma.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et sur un appareil de détermination de l'état d'un liquide. Les particules de matériau qui enregistrent une force lorsqu'elles sont placées dans un champ magnétique sont déplacées dans un échantillon de liquide, et la position et/ou déplacement des particules sont déterminés par un capteur de champ magnétique. En notant les changements de réponse des particules sur un champ magnétique appliqué, il est possible de déterminer les changements de l'état de coagulation du liquide. L'appareil peut comprendre une chambre allongée permettant de retenir le liquide avec un électroaimant et un capteur associé de champ magnétique placé à chaque extrémité. Le procédé et l'appareil de l'invention sont notamment utilisés pour mesurer le temps de coagulation du sang ou du plasma.
