This water heater can be cleaned periodically and comprises a raised tank with a water outlet valve located at the bottom of the tank which can be used to empty the tank, a water inlet valve located at the top of the tank, a heating system, and an access point for the introduction of a cleaning product; the said access point is generally kept closed and is situated between the water inlet valve and the tank. The inlet valve is closed when the outlet valve is momentarily opened to empty the water heater of its contents; the access point for introducing the cleaning product is then opened temporarily to introduce the cleaning product. The water inlet valve is then opened in order to fill the tank, and the inlet valve is then left closed when the outlet valve is momentarily re-opened to empty the tank of its contents after the cleaning product has done its work. The inlet valve is then reopened momentarily to fill the tank for a second time in order that it may be rinsed. After rinsing, the water inlet valve is finally reopened for normal use of the water heater.
