ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method of cleaning stumps from adherent impurities such as soil, stones, litter or the like and a device for carrying the method into effect. The object of the invention is to realize a more efficient and economical cleaning of stumps by grasping and retain- ing the stump by a gripping device, lifting up and bring- ing the stump to swing to and fro in order to strike against an out-of-phase pendulating or driven device whereby im- purities are shaken off. For carrying out the method a device is proposed including a gripping device which is articulated in or adjacent a frame or the like, and a dri- ving source, adapted to set the frame swinging such that the stump grasped by the gripping device collides repeat- edly with the frame throughout the driving operation, whereby the impurities are shaken off.
