Abstract Method and Device for Continuous Surface Treatment of Bar-shaped Elongated Materials Having a Metallic Surface The invention concerns a method and a device for the thermal surface treatment of bar-shaped elongated materials having a metallic surface by means of an electric arc which rotates, magnetically driven, about the axis of the strand, whereby the arc moves between an annular electrode (anode) and the strand led through it and used as cathode. According to the invention, the problem of developing improved measuresfor arc stabilization are, among other things, solved thereby that the electric arc is set rotating by means of a direct current magnet located behind the annular electrode in the direction of travel of the strand and, at the same time, that the magnetic field induced by the direct current magnet counteracts the pulling effect of the arc base due to the moving strand and that the annular electrode current is divided into two partial currents. The field of application is primarily in the thermal surface treatment of bar-shaped elongated materials having a metallic surface.
