The invention relates to deceleration in an induction machine (2) comprising a stator which is connected to a single-phase or multi-phase a.c. system (L1, L2, L3) via an a.c. power controller (4) which can be controlled by phase control. The aim of the invention is to control said deceleration. Initially, the phase angle (~) is increased in a gradual manner until said angle reaches an operating point which has been determined by means of given criteria. Said phase angle (~) is then controlled for deceleration of the induction machine (2) according to a given control programme.
