The invention relates to a method and device for determining a stationary and/or moving object, especially a vehicle, wherein acoustic signals given off by the object or reflected on another object are picked up, used to detect the object in question, evaluated and/or identified. A self locating function based on sound waves can thus occur, wherein a stationary object and a moving object such as a vehicle can be acoustically detected, evaluated and identified, by means of its own noises and/or external noises with respect to its movement path in relation to one or several coordinate axes (x-, y-axis).
