The present invention provides a method (100) and device (200) for allocating bits to video pictures in a video compression system. A sequence of video frames or pictures is received (102), and the number of bits used to compress a previously encoded frame and a signal-to-noise ratio for the immediately previously encoded video frame are determined (104). Rate distortion model parameters are updated (106). Then, first (108), second (110), and third (112) deviations are determined. Finally, the bit allocation for the frame is determined based on the first number of bits used to compress a previously encoded frame the first deviation, the second deviation, and the third deviation (114).
Cette invention présente un procédé (100) et un dispositif (200), permettant d'affecter des bits à des images vidéo dans un système de compression vidéo. Après avoir reçu (102) une séquence d'images vidéo, on détermine (104) le nombre de bits utilisés pour compresser une image précédemment codée ainsi que le rapport signal/bruit d'une image vidéo venant juste d'être codée. On actualise (106) des paramètres d'un modèle de distorsion de vitesse. On définit ensuite un premier (108), puis un deuxième (110) et enfin un troisième (112) écart. En dernier lieu, on détermine l'affectation de bits pour l'image d'après le premier nombre de bits utilisés pour compresser une image précédemment codée ainsi que d'après les trois écarts susmentionnés (114).
