Abstract of the Disclosure A method for determining an accumulated pitch error of a toothed wheel on a machine tool, wherein the toothed wheel is machined such that the toothed wheel is engaged with a rotating abrasive tool to thereby remove material from the tooth flanks, includes the steps of connecting the rotational axis of the toothed wheel to a first impulse sender and a first drive unit and connecting the rotational axis of the abrasive tool to a second impulse sender and a second drive unit. The impulse senders and drive units are connected to a machine tool control unit having a computing device with a first and second internal computing unit, a first and second data storage unit, and a data output unit. The abrasive tool engages the toothed wheel and is rotated with the second drive unit to effect one revolution of the toothed wheel. The toothed wheel is entrained load-free but in form-locking contact with the abrasive tool. A signal is sent from the first computing unit to the second computing unit when a defined rotational path of the abrasive tool has been completed and this step is repeated until the toothed wheel has completed one revolution. This rotational path is a predetermined fraction of a complete revolution of the toothed wheel. The number of impulses omitted by the first impulse sender between two sequential signals is counted with the second computing unit and stored as measured values in the first data storage unit. With the computing device the accumulated pitch error is computed by evaluating the measured values relative to geometric relations between toothed wheel, abrasive tool, and drive units.
