A method and device for coding an input sound signal in at least one lower layer and at least one upper layer of an embedded codec while reducing a quantization noise comprises, in the at least one lower layer, coding the input sound signal to produce coding parameters, wherein coding the input sound signal comprises producing a synthesized sound signal. An error signal is computed as a difference between the input sound signal and the synthesized sound signal and a spectral mask is calculated as a function of a spectrum related to the input sound signal. In the at least one upper layer, the error signal is coded to produce coding coefficients, the spectral mask is applied to the coding coefficients, and the masked coding coefficients are quantized. Applying the spectral mask to the coding coefficients reduces the quantization noise produced upon quantizing the coding coefficients. Therefore, a method and device for reducing the quantization noise produced during coding of the error signal in the at least one upper layer comprises providing the spectral mask and, in the at least one upper layer, applying the spectral mask to the coding coefficients prior to quantizing the coding coefficients.
L'invention porte sur un procédé et sur un dispositif pour coder un signal sonore d'entrée dans au moins une couche inférieure et au moins une couche supérieure d'un codec incorporé, tout en réduisant un bruit de quantification, lesquels procédé et dispositif comportent, dans la ou les couches inférieures, le codage du signal sonore d'entrée pour produire des paramètres de codage, le codage du signal sonore d'entrée comportant la production d'un signal sonore synthétisé. Un signal d'erreur est calculé comme étant une différence entre le signal sonore d'entrée et le signal sonore synthétisé, et un masque spectral est calculé comme étant une fonction d'un spectre associé au signal sonore d'entrée. Dans la ou les couches supérieures, le signal d'erreur est codé pour produire des coefficients de codage, le masque spectral est appliqué aux coefficients de codage et les coefficients de codage masqués sont quantifiés. L'application du masque spectral aux coefficients de codage réduit le bruit de quantification produit lors de la quantification des coefficients de codage. Par conséquent, un procédé et un dispositif pour réduire le bruit de quantification produit pendant le codage du signal d'erreur dans la ou les couches supérieures comportent la fourniture du masque spectrale et, dans la ou les couches supérieures, l'application du masque spectral aux coefficients de codage avant la quantification des coefficients de codage.
