The invention relates to a method and a device for melting down material containing metal, preferably finely particulate material containing metal, such as sponge iron, in a metallurgic melting furnace (1). The molten metal (5) and a layer of dross (6) that floats on the molten metal (5) are maintained in an inner chamber (11) of the melting furnace (1). The material containing the metal is supplied by means of a supplying device that is immersed in the layer of dross (6) and energy is supplied in the form of electric arcs (14). The metal-containing material is guided directly to the central area (Z) of the melting furnace (1) by means of at least one charging pipe (8), which is used exclusively for conveying material, via the opening (9) of said charging pipe and the arcs (14) are directed at the molten metal (5) in a horizontal direction against the central area (Z) of the melting furnace (1). The metal-containing material is melted in the layer of dross (6) and a dross-molten metal mixing process is maintained in the area of the charging pipe opening (9).

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de faire fondre un matériau contenant du métal, de préférence un matériau à base de métal sous forme de fines particules, tel que de l'éponge de fer, dans un four métallurgique de fusion (1). Une couche de métal en fusion (5) et une couche de laitier (6) flottant sur le métal en fusion (5) sont maintenues dans l'espace intérieur (11) du four de fusion (1). Le matériau à base de métal y est acheminé à l'aide d'un dispositif d'alimentation plongeant dans la couche de laitier (6) et l'énergie est acheminée sous forme d'arc électrique (14). Le matériau à base de métal est introduit par la voie directe dans la zone centrale (Z) du four de fusion (1), au moyen d'au moins un tuyau de chargement (8) servant exclusivement à acheminer le matériau, en passant par son embouchure de chargement (9). Les arcs électriques (14) sont dirigés de manière oblique à l'encontre de la zone centrale (Z) du four de fusion (1) sur le métal en fusion (5) et le matériau à base de métal est fondu dans la couche de laitier (6). Un processus mixte laitier et métal en fusion est maintenu dans la zone de l'embouchure du tuyau de chargement (9).
