Abstract A method for monitoring branched optical line networks, adapted for transferring information signals via one or more branchings (1, 17, 18, 19, 28) between an information source (11) and an information receiver (13, 15). The information signal is fed to a first in-gate (7, 21, 22) to its respective branching (1, 17, 18, 19, 20) and that a monitoring signal is fed into a second in-gate (8, 25, 26, 27) to its respective branching and that the branching connects the information signal and the monitoring signal to a first as well as to a second out-gate (9, 10, 23, 24, 29, 30) of the branching.
