he method of this invention permits the synchronous regeneration of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) solitons which are conveyed on an optical fibre. The method uses clock recovery based on the WDM signal, and synchronous modulation of solitons in sync with the clock signal that is thus regenerated. The method is characterized by the placement of the optical modulator, as the distance between the transmitter and the first modulator, or between successive modulators along the optical link, is calculated to ensure the synchronicity of signals of different wavelengths. The invented device ensures inline regeneration of solitons through synchronous modulation thereof by using an optical modulator, clock recovery, and multichannel filtering at the output of the modulator. In a specific variant, the telecommunications system of this invention also includes fibre segments subject to different laws of dispersion depending on their position in the link, thus permitting "dispersion management" within the link. La méthode de l'invention permet la régénération synchrone de solitons multiplexés en longueur d'onde (WDM) et véhiculés sur une fibre optique. La méthode utilise une récupération d'horloge à partir du signal WDM, et la modulation synchrone des solitons au rythme de l'horloge ainsi récupéré. La méthode est caractérisée par la disposition du modulateur optique, car la distance entre l'émetteur et le premier modulateur, ou entre modulateurs successifs le longue de la liaison optique, est calculée pour assurer la synchronicité des signaux ayant des longueurs d'onde différentes. Le dispositif de l'invention opère la régénération de solitons en ligne par la modulation synchrone de ces solitons utilisant un modulateur optique, une récupération d'horloge, et un filtrage multicanaux en sortie dudit modulateur. Selon une réalisation particulière, le système de télécommunications de l'invention comprend en outre des tronçons de fibre ayant des lois de dispersion différentes selon leur position dans la liaison, de manière à effectuer une "gestion de dispersion" au sein de la liaison.
