A method and apparatus are provided herein for improving the playability of stringed or plucked instruments, especially guitars, comprising strings which are stretched across a fretted or fretless fingerboard. The method includes the steps of measuring the actual profile of the fingerboard surface underneath each stretched string using a computer-controlled measuring and tuning apparatus. An optimum profile of the fingerboard surface is then calculated by taking into account specific vibration behaviour of each string to minimize the distance between each string and the fingerboard surface, using a computer. A differential amount, that is the difference between the optimum profile and the actual profile, is removed from the fingerboard surface using a machine.
Pour qu'il soit plus facile de jouer d'instruments à cordes frottées et à cordes pincées, notamment des guitares, comportant des cordes (10) tendues sur une touche garnie ou non de frettes (7), le profil de la surface de la touche est mesuré au-dessous de chaque corde individuelle sous tension. La forme optimale de la surface de la touche est déterminée pour chaque corde par un ordinateur sur la base des paramètres des cordes, le but étant de maintenir au minimum l'écartement des cordes par rapport aux surfaces des frettes (11) sans pour autant affecter la vibration des cordes. Ensuite, les différences entre le profil de la surface de la touche calculé et le profil réel de celle-ci sont compensées à l'aide d'une machine pilotée par ordinateur. Il est alors remarquablement plus facile de jouer d'un instrument qui est accordé avec une haute précision et réglé avec un écartement minimal des cordes par rapport aux frettes et qui produit un son clair.
