The work surface to be protected (1) is cleared and accessible both from above (102) and at least on one side, called the free side (100). The method is characterised in that clean air is continuously blown above the work surface (1) from the side (101) opposite the free side (100), in the form of a substantially horizontal flux that sweeps across the work surface (1), towards the free side (100), and which has a speed gradient such that the upper layer - or top stream - (V1) has a speed substantially greater than the air flowing in the proximity of the top surface (10) of the work surface (1); the totality or the main part of the flux is drawn from the free side (100), by means of a suction vent (20) extending along and immediately adjacent to the edge (10b) of the work surface (1). The invention is useful for protecting a fixed or mobile surface supporting various articles sensitive to the contamination of the ambient air.

The invention is useful for protecting a fixed or mobile surface supporting various articles sensitive to the contamination of the ambient air.
