(57) Abstract A method for providing access, in a sterile condition, to material which is packed in a sealed capsule chain (1), more parti- cularly for the purpose of the vegetative propagation of plant material. According to the invention the sealed capsule chain (1) is passed, in a substantially horizontal position, through a bath (2) containing a disinfectant and is then transferred into a substan- tially upright position, in which an incision is made close to each seal between the successive capsules, while leaving the upper marginal portion of the capsule chain intact.
